Preschool St. Boniface
Following a devastating fire, only a small number of children could still be accommodated in the few undamaged remaining buildings of the kindergarten. With funds from the Heribert Nasch Foundation, the destroyed part of the building was completely rebuilt and the remaining buildings were renovated.
Today, around 300 children once again attend the facility every day, where they not only satisfy their hunger for education but are also provided with hot meals. In the past, excursions to Durban were also financed. In South Africa's third-largest city, the children were able to enjoy a very special perspective: the view of the Indian Ocean – for most of them for the very first time.
In 2009, ISP employees Hans Tyrra and Jürgen Remke spent a very different kind of holiday. Instead of putting their feet up, they rolled up their sleeves. In Kimberley (South Africa), they not only handed out bread and coffee to street children but also renovated the showers and fencing of the "Thutong ya Bana" school, working hand in hand with them.
In September 2016, ISP employees Heloise Rowart and Tanja Niehoff spent their holidays volunteering in Kimberley, South Africa. Among other things, they helped care for the street children and supported the teachers at the Preschool and the Primary School.
